Making the Tough Call: Why We're Pausing Extension Support
Building a startup means making hard decisions about where to focus. Today, we're sharing one of those decisions with you.
We're temporarily pausing support for the Summate Extension to go all-in on perfecting Summate v2 and our core Personalized Digest experience.
This wasn't an easy call, but it's the right one. Let me explain why.
The Power of Focus
We've learned something crucial over the past months: trying to do everything means doing nothing exceptionally well.
With Summate v2, we've rebuilt our entire infrastructure from the ground up. The new platform is:
- 10x faster at processing your content
- More intelligent in understanding what matters to you
- More reliable with better source management
- More customizable with granular digest controls
But here's the thing – to make this vision a reality, we need our entire team focused on one goal: creating the world's best personalized digest experience.
What This Means for You
If You're Using the Extension Today
The extension is no longer compatible with Summate v2 and will not function. We recommend uninstalling it for now to avoid any confusion or errors. The v1 extension infrastructure has been deprecated as part of our platform upgrade.
What We're Building Instead
By focusing our resources, we're accelerating development on:
-
Smarter Digest Algorithms: AI that truly understands your reading preferences and surfaces exactly what you need to know
-
Better Source Integration: Seamless connection with more platforms, better newsletter handling, and improved content extraction
-
Advanced Customization: Fine-tune exactly how your digest looks, when it arrives, and what it includes
-
Mobile Experience: A completely redesigned mobile interface that makes reading on-the-go a delight
The Extension Will Return (Better Than Ever)
This isn't goodbye – it's "see you later."
Once we've nailed the core Summate v2 experience, we'll bring back the extension with:
- Native v2 integration
- Faster summarization
- Better webpage understanding
- Cross-platform sync with your digests
- Features you've been requesting that we couldn't build on the old architecture
Your Voice Matters
We know many of you love the extension, and we want to hear from you:
Vote on our roadmap → to help us prioritize when to bring back the extension and what features matter most to you.
Your votes directly influence our development priorities. If there's overwhelming demand for the extension, we'll adjust our timeline accordingly.
What's Next?
For the next few months, we're heads-down on making Summate v2 the best it can be. This means:
- Weekly improvements to digest quality
- New source integrations every month
- Better personalization algorithms
- Performance improvements across the board
We're not just building a product – we're crafting an experience that transforms how you consume information. And that requires our full attention.
Thank You for Your Understanding
To our extension users: thank you for your patience. We know this is disappointing, but we promise the wait will be worth it.
To everyone: thank you for being part of this journey. Your feedback, support, and enthusiasm keep us going every day.
Building something exceptional sometimes means saying no to good things to focus on great things. That's what we're doing with Summate v2.
Stay tuned for exciting updates, and don't forget to cast your vote for what you want to see next.
